Imagine a gender equal world, diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where our differences are valued and celebrated. This International Women’s Day, we join the global movement to celebrate the achievements of women and reaffirm our commitment to a world free of bias and stereotypes.
This year’s theme, #GiveToGain, reminds us that when we invest in women through support and opportunity, we all benefit. At Newcastle Pools, we are proud to spotlight the incredible team members who are making waves and inspiring the next generation.
Meet Megan
A big part of Megan’s inspiration comes from growing up around the pool. Her dad was a swimming pool manager and coach, and she spent her childhood watching him teach, encourage, and build people up.

What inspired your career and what do you love about coaching? "Seeing the way my dad connected with swimmers and made them feel supported planted the seed for me early on. It showed me the kind of impact a coach can have, not just on someone’s skills, but on their confidence. That’s what I love most about coaching our community now. The laughter, the friendships, and the 'I didn’t think I could do that' moments are everything. It’s about creating a space where people feel welcome, encouraged, and genuinely seen."
What is your advice for women looking to build confidence in the pool? "Start by giving yourself permission to be a beginner. Confidence doesn’t come from being perfect; it comes from showing up, trying, and laughing at the wobbly moments. Focus on the small wins, a better body position or a stronger kick. Those add up quickly! And surround yourself with people who lift you up. Confidence grows fastest in community, not in isolation."
How do you stay motivated and prioritise your own wellbeing? "It starts with remembering why movement matters. It’s not about chasing perfection; it’s about how good I feel when I’m active and connected. Coaching so many incredible women also keeps me accountable; I can’t encourage others to show up for themselves if I’m not doing the same. When I’m surrounded by women who celebrate every little win, it makes it easy to keep showing up, not just for them, but for myself."
Join the Celebration
We are so lucky to have leaders like Megan at Newcastle Pools. Today, we celebrate her and all the women who make our aquatic community such a supportive and empowering place to be.
Happy International Women’s Day! Let's continue to #GiveToGain.
