After a fantastic season for the City of Newcastle’s Inland Pools, we are getting closer to the end of the season on Sunday, April 27th, for the majority of our pools. As operations shift back to the shoulder season, visitors are encouraged to make the most of the pools before we close for the cooler months.
Since reopening in October, Newcastle’s five inland pools have been buzzing with activity, welcoming thousands of visitors and hosting a string of standout events and programs.
Highlights from the season include:
- More than 600 people attended our free community open days, where over 400 complimentary sausages were served up fresh from the BBQ by our BlueFit team members.
- Lambton Pool cemented its status as a premier aquatic hub, playing host to major regional water polo tournaments and school carnivals that attracted visitors from across the region.
- Over 24,000 thrill-seekers rode the slides at Lambton Pool throughout the season.
- A total of 54 school swimming carnivals took place across all five inland pools, reinforcing the importance of water safety and swimming education.
- More than 400 families participated in weekly learn to swim lessons as part of the BlueFit Swimming program.
- Our popular free inflatable sessions saw over 1,000 participants take on the challenge of our giant pool inflatables.
- BlueFit proudly delivered 11 complimentary training courses for aspiring lifeguards and swim instructors, creating valuable employment pathways and boosting local capacity at Newcastle Pools.
- More than 12 young people kickstarted their careers through school-based traineeships, earning industry-recognised qualifications, including a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation within the aquatic and leisure sector.
The season has been a resounding success, drawing in swimmers and community members of all ages and abilities. As we say farewell to Mayfield, Wallsend, Stockton and Beresfield Pools on Sunday, April 27, swimmers can still make the most of the extended season at Lambton Pool, which will remain open until Sunday, May 25.
